3 Things I’m Thinking About
What’s at stake in this election.
One thing about me, folks? I love a good game of Scrabble.
Connie and I (along with Franklin and Walter, of course) play games out on our deck when it’s warm enough.
As we close out 2025, I wanted to share three of the biggest issues I’m focused on heading into the new year.
Outrageous Prices
Everywhere I go in Ohio, I hear the same thing: Prices are too damn high.
Folks are working harder than ever, but they just can’t keep up with the cost of living. Grocery bills seem to get bigger with every trip to the store, gas and utilities are soaring, and housing is simply unaffordable. Families are being forced to choose between putting food on the table and paying for health care – and what is Jon Husted doing about it?
Absolutely nothing. He hasn’t lifted a finger to make life more affordable for Ohioans.
Unlike Husted, who’s fighting for his wealthy donors and corporate interest buddies, I’m fighting for the people who actually make Ohio work. I’m in this for the farmer who gets up before dawn, the small-business owner who’s struggling under reckless tariffs, the single parent who has to work the night shift to provide for their family. I’m in this for you.
Health Care
Working folks are already living on the edge. Now, millions of them are about to see their health insurance premiums double, even triple, in 2026.
Affordable Care Act subsidies – which have drastically lowered the cost of health care for millions of Americans and expanded access to millions more – are set to expire at the end of the year, and the majorities in Congress refuse to extend them.
When given the chance, Husted has voted nine times against lowering health care costs. And this summer, he was the deciding vote on the Senate’s big budget bill, which took an axe to Medicaid to fund the largest tax cut for billionaires in U.S. history.
After that horrible vote, Husted even had the gall to say that no Ohioan was going to lose their Medicaid coverage. In reality, nearly 500,000 Ohioans are set to lose their coverage, and rural hospitals all across our state will be forced to close their doors. He’s lying.
In the richest country in the world, I believe that health care should be affordable and accessible for every Ohioan. Husted believes that insurance companies and their CEOs deserve bigger tax breaks. That’s what’s at stake in this election.
Irresponsible Tariffs
Ohio’s farmers are in crisis, but Jon Husted doesn’t seem to care.
For years, our farmers have sold billions of dollars’ worth of soybeans overseas. Because Jon Husted has refused to stand up for Ohio farmers, they’re now facing a catastrophic 74% loss in sales.
Reckless tariffs supported by Husted have sent those buyers to other countries looking for better prices – countries like Argentina.
So, what’s Washington doing? Bailing out Argentina’s economy with $40 billion in American taxpayer money. Please, someone, make it make sense.
Unlike Husted, I’ve actually been listening to Ohio farmers, and I’ll tell you: They’re hurting. They’re facing soaring costs and shrinking sales, and every bushel of soybean has collapsed in price and value. And on top of that, they have a government that’s sending their tax dollars to the very competitor who undercut them. It’s a betrayal.
I don’t know about you, but I believe the senator from Ohio should be speaking out against this, not caving to special interests and continuing to defend a trade war that’s only left our farmers and our people worse off.
These three things – the affordability crisis, health care, how tariffs are affecting our farmers – are top of mind for me heading into the new year. And they all exist in our rigged system, which is designed by and for the most powerful in our country to make the rich richer and force working people to pay the price.
Fixing this rigged system is why I’m running for Senate.
In Ohio, we look out for each other – it’s just what we do. But that’s not what Jon Husted is doing. While Husted is busy looking out for his billionaire buddies and corporate interests, I’ve never taken my eye off the ball when it comes to who I work for: the people of Ohio.
I’m grateful to have you in this fight with me. Thanks for reading.
In solidarity,
Sherrod
To all supporters of Sherrod Brown, please read this important message.
Sherrod is running for U.S. Senate to fight for working people and take on the billionaires and corporate interests rigging the system. Recent polling shows him leading his Republican opponent, Jon Husted, but the margins are slim, and Husted and his allies will spend millions to defeat him. Attack ads have already begun.
Experts say that Sherrod can win this race, but not without unprecedented grassroots support from folks like you. Will you chip in today to help us keep up our momentum, flip Ohio’s critical seat, and take back the Senate majority?

I can't say how glad I am that Sherrod's back. Something has to be done in our Congress and I know that getting Sherrod in there will be what we need to get things back to better again. See you at the polls!!
A former Ohioan, born of one who was born of one, with deep roots of family and friends in Ohio, I want you back in the Senate, Sherrod Brown, because you are best for my home state and the rest of us. Forced to retire a year ago because of long COVID (which continues) at almost 78 after being self employed for almost 50 years, my social security isn’t even enough to pay housing. Fortunately married to someone still able to work, I have to still make decisions on food v housing; keeping warm or cool v housing. It’s as if the GOP wants all of us to die with cuts to Medicaid, defunding the ACA supplements, the programs for youth & children, research grants for medical care, and on and on.
I’ve donated and will again. You committed to all of us. My monthly pledge won’t be much. I hope it helps you return. Thank you for giving up more relaxing games of Scrabble and running again.
